Amka Terra is a stewardship and education initiative helping people understand the relationship between ecology, culture, travel, community, and care for place.
Our work is rooted in a simple belief: when people see a place more deeply, they are more prepared to protect it, honor it, and help shape its future with responsibility.
Why Amka Terra Exists.
Amka Terra was created to bring environmental awareness, cultural understanding, and community responsibility into closer conversation.
Too often, environmental education is treated separately from the people, histories, neighborhoods, and local identities that give a place meaning. At the same time, travel and tourism are often framed around access, experience, and movement without enough attention to the responsibility visitors and destinations share. Amka Terra connects these ideas.
We believe stewardship is not limited to parks, forests, or protected landscapes. It also lives in neighborhoods, classrooms, community centers, historic corridors, urban tree canopies, local waterways, cultural spaces, volunteer efforts, and the everyday environments where people learn what it means to belong.

Amka Terra advances stewardship education through environmental learning, regenerative tourism literacy, community-centered partnerships, outdoor engagement, volunteer stewardship, and place-based programming.
We create and support learning experiences that help young people, communities, and partners understand how natural systems, cultural memory, responsible travel, outdoor engagement, and local care are connected.

That future begins with education that is accessible, place-based, and rooted in relationship. It asks people to look beyond surface experience and consider the deeper systems that shape a destination — its ecology, history, residents, stories, and responsibility to future generations.
What Guides Our Work.

We believe education becomes more meaningful when it is connected to familiar environments: neighborhoods, parks, streets, schools, community centers, trails, and local landscapes.

We help learners recognize the value of trees, insects, wildlife, ecosystems, and the natural systems that support everyday life.

We recognize that places carry stories. Stewardship includes honoring the histories, identities, and communities that shape how a place is understood.

Our Current Work.
Amka Terra’s current work includes youth environmental learning through Rooted Futures, outdoor stewardship and movement through Terra Trails, community volunteer service through Terra Days, regenerative tourism education, and partnership development across each program area.
Our current youth programming includes support for environmental learning connected to the NPU-P Environment Committee & William Walker Recreation Center Afterschool Program, where students are introduced to topics such as insects, wildlife, trees, ecosystems, and responsible interaction with the natural world.
This work is part of a broader vision to create accessible educational experiences that connect young people, communities, and partners to the living systems around them.
Founder Perspective.
Amka Terra was founded by Maurice Smith, CTIE, a hospitality and travel strategist whose work connects regenerative tourism, cultural hospitality, place-based guest experience, and restoration-centered leadership.
His perspective is shaped by a belief that the future of travel and hospitality must carry deeper responsibility to place. Beautiful experiences are not enough. Destinations also require care, memory, ecological awareness, cultural respect, and community benefit.
Through Amka Terra, Maurice brings this perspective into an educational and community-centered platform designed to help young people, partners, volunteers, and future travelers understand stewardship in practical and meaningful ways.
